Free Training for Tutors

This June, The Plainfield Public Library Adult Literacy Department will be hosting free training for those interested in tutoring the library's ESL, GED, & Pre-GED programs. 

The training is also being provided as a service to other libraries that are or wish to begin providing these services. The program will be held on June 18th and June 25th. Preregistration is required.

Voter Registration &
Mock Election Day

On April 23rd the Plainfield Library Adult Literacy Department held a "Voter Registration and Mock Election Day” event to help local residents become more familiar with the democratic process. Many of the attendees had recently become citizens of the United States.

40 people attended the event which resulted in 20 newly registered voters. The event was organized by Stella Segura, the library's ESL Coordinator, along with volunteers Jacqueline Arango and Ryan Moore.

2016 Garden Tour
The Friends of the Plainfield Public Library (FOPPL) invite you to tour the amazing gardens located in Plainfield's historic neighborhoods. Many of these gardens have been newly landscaped in anticipation of this tour. Discover unusual plants and garden ideas that you will want to adapt to your own property!  For more information, click here.
On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!

The 2016 Children's Summer Reading Club is here! We have tons of acitivities planned along with some amazing performers! The club is free and open to children in Pre-K through 8th grade. Babies and toddlers can also participate by having a parent, guardian, or older sibling read to them and record their books. Registration begins June 16th and runs through July 15th. Petra Puppets to Kick Off Summer

Join us on Friday June 24th at 3:00 p.m. for a program guaranteed to entertain the whole family! Steve Petra, who trained at the National Theatre of Puppet Arts, will be opening our Summer Reading Program for children.  Steve is a full-time professional ventriloquist and puppeteer. His shows combine educational content with puppetry, illusion, props, sound effects, music, and humor to keep everone engaged! Don't miss this show great for all ages!

Hip Hop Edutainment has a new home!
Wednesdays in July 2016
6 to 8 p.m. in the ALD Room
Join us Wednesday evenings in July for a live discussion group with Kurt Nice & Friends. Highlights will include special guest speakers and performers. Plus Open Mic Sessions will be recorded for the Hip Hop Archive!
The Shades of Hip Hop Kurt Nice Collection will be on display through July in the Anne Louise Gallery Room on the library's lower level.
