2015 Summer Reading Fun

Summer Reading Program is getting ready to blast-off at the Plainfield Public Library! “Every Hero Has a Story” is this year’s theme, and we have prepared seven weeks full of reading incentives, storytimes, special performers, and so much more! The program is free and open to children in Pre-K through 8th grade, although babies may also participate by having an adult read to them! Please join us in making this a memorable summer!

Important Dates and Rules

  1. Program will run from June 22nd through August 7th. Registration runs from June 22nd to July 17th. First 100 children will receive a coloring book.
  2. Between June 22nd and July 24th, record the books you read in your reading log in the Children’s Department.
  3. Books must be age appropriate, as determined by the Children’s Library Staff. Be sure to ask for recommendations!
  4. For every book you read, you will receive one (1) library dollar. The maximum number of books that can be recorded in the log is Twenty-five (25).
  5. Library dollars can be used to purchase items at the Summer Reading Rewards Fair on Friday, July 31st from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Field Station Dinosaurs
The Mighty T-Rex and Dinosaur Troubadour from Field Station Dinosaurs wil visit us at the Library Park on Monday, June 22nd at 11:00 a.m.
U.S. Golf Association

Learn about William Powell; the only African American to have designed, built, owned, and operated a public golf course in the U.S.,
overcoming the challenges of a segregated America. This event will take place on July 15th, at 2:00 p.m. in ALD Room

Facepainting with Ms. Debbie
The last day that patrons can register for the Summer Reading Club will be on Friday, July 17th. We will have Ms. Debbie doing face and arm painting on this day from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Zoom Balloons
Earl Hicks a.k.a. "Mr. Zoom" from Zoom Balloons will bring magic, comedy, music, ballon art, and lots of movement on June 25th at 2:00 p.m. in the ALD Room.
Jester Jim

Back by popular demand! Jester Jim will bring juggling acts, comedy, balancing, and beatboxing, to the library. A program the whole family can enjoy on July 23rd at 3:00 p.m. in the ALD Room

Storytimes & Crafts
Storytimes and crafts for Pre-schoolers will take place on Mondays at 11:30 a.m.
Storytimes and crafts for older children will be on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.

Plainfield Fire Deparment

The Plainfield Fire Department will show a short video and talk about fire safety, and what it’s like to be a firefighter on July 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the ALD Room.

Jim Vagias

Magician Jim Vagias will present “American Heroes” where children can take an imaginary trip to Washington D.C., and learn about history through Jim’s magic, humor, and puppetry on July 31st at 2:00 p.m. in the ALD Room

Animal Adventures

Nature Nick will introduce you to the true heroes of the animal kingdom. Learn about falcons used in WWII and other stories, all with a variety of live animals including a kangaroo! This show will take place in the ALD Room on August 7th at 11:00 a.m.
