The Children's Library will kick off this year's Summer Reading Program, and this summer, the national theme for the program is Libraries Rock.

Registration for this year's program begins on June 22nd, and will feature 7 weeks of programs, shows, storytimes and treats for young readers. Highlights of the program include Petra Puppets (6/22 @2pm), a Djembe African Drum Circle (6/26 @1pm), Jester Jim's juggling show (7/19 @1pm), Touch the Music (7/23 @11am), Zoom Balloons (7/30 @2pm), and a cooling visit on a hot day from the Kona Ice Truck (8/3 @12pm), as well as movies, stories, crafts and a special Rewards Fair (also 8/3 @12pm) for participants in the Summer Reading Program to claim rewards for all their reading.

There's so much to do that we encourage you to please check out the Children's Library Summer Reading Program for full details.

Teen Programming
for June

June will also bring a new series of programs for teens:

Coffee Cup Art on June 13th is a returning craft workshop that will use ordinary paper coffee cups to create interactive artworks that twist and turn.

Storymakers on June 20th is a workshop designed to help loosen up the imagination and provide tools to make storytelling easier and more creative. We'll use a variety of games and creative strategies to tell new stories in new ways.

Later in the month, we have two programs with a musical theme, reflecting this summer's Libraries Rock theme:

On June 18th, BandLab will introduce participants to an online Digital Audio Workstation - BandLab - that will allow users to create whole songs using the onboard sequencer, instruments and sampler.

We will offer a Sonic Pi workshop on the 25th of June. Sonic Pi is a live coding musical application, which uses lines of code to create tunes , modify sounds and play samples. It's an interesting crossover between learning coding and making music.

Our Youth Advisory Board session (6/17) is open to all 11-17 year olds with free pizza slices for student attendees.

You can also view the program posters for more information:

Memoir Writing Club
Thursday, June 14th
10:30 am in room 8 (lower level)

This month's optional writing topic is "Clothes."

The Library's Memoir Writing Club offers members a comfortable forum for sharing stories of important events, friendships, and family history. Do you have memories that you would like to share? Come join the Memoir Writing Club. Before a session, participants write down their memories - creating a Memoir. During meetings, members share what they've written on a topic. At the end of each meeting the group chooses an optional topic for the next session, but individual members are free to write about whatever inspires them.
