Read To Feed At The Library!
Read to Feed is Heifer International's reading incentive service-learning program that offers global education opportunities, while fostering a love for reading, a passion to help others, and a motivation to help create a better world.
During the month of February, we announced that the children's library would be sponsoring an animal through Heifer International. Their mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty. Heifer empowers millions to go from poverty to self-reliance via gifts of livestock, seeds, trees & training, providing a multiplying source of food & income.
Funds from our crocodile bank will be used to sponsor an animal. Children visiting the library voted for either a pig, a sheep, or a goat. Votes poured in, and the pig was declared the winner! During this month, we are happy to continue teaching children about love and compassion through a storytime on Tuesday, April 8th at 3:30 p.m. where children will have the opportunity to learn a little more about our global concerns.

FIZZ, BOOM, READ Is On Its Way!!
Planning for our 2014 Summer Reading Program is well under way and this year's theme: Fizz, Boom, Read is sure to spark children's imaginations, and encourage them to read for fun.
Summer vacation causes disadvantaged children to fall behind academically. Every year the library creates a program where families can participate in literacy enriched activities and special performances. This year, the summer reading program will begin on June 23rd, and run through July 31st. Stay tuned for more details and important registration dates!
FIZZ, BOOM, READ is part of The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) which is a consortium of states working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for children at the lowest cost possible for their public libraries.
