From the Desk of the Director...

Library Director Mary Ellen Rogan

As we look forward to the spring, better weather and the slowing of COVID-19 we must indeed thank all those who have worked so hard to keep us safe and provide the vaccines that will allow us to move back to our normal lives.

However, we still must be vigilant in our habits and activities moving forward. The Library has assessed the situation for our staff and patrons and I am thrilled to announce that we will be adjusting our hours to accommodate early evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In adjusting those hours we will open later but stay open until 6:30pm. Until the Library staff can all be in the building at the same time adjusted scheduling will still be the norm.

It is my hope the new hours will give our children more time for family appointments and allow others who work, some time to take care of their business, entertainment, and research needs at the Library.

Hoping you are all safe and well. Rest assured we are working hard to plan for normalcy moving forward.

With a bright hope for the future,

Mary Ellen Rogan

New! Limited Evening Hours return in March!

As we continue to steadily and cautiously ease back into our normal opening hours, March sees another step forward, bringing a schedule change that will hopefully make the Library more accessible to those who can't make it in during our daytine hours.

From March 1st the Library Building will be open to the public from 12:30pm-6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, alongside our existing opening schedule of 10am-4pm  on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Our hours for Curbside pickups and Children's Library appointments have been adapted in line with this, offering Tuesday and Thursday schedules that extend our availability into the early evening. Please see the graphic above for full details, or give us a call to find out more, at (908) 757 1111.

These join our limited in-person Circulation hours on Wednesdays and Fridays (see below).

Tax Assistance 2021

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has limited the ability of AARP to provide the valuable and much-appreciated tax aide assistance they've been able to offer in Plainfield in previous years.

However, many free tax assistance programs are still running, especially online (including services online from AARP).

The Library can help by providing free computer access, printing & scanning, & WiFi throughout the parking lots & Library Park, as well as access to basic tax forms and general informational asistance  (even though we can't actually assist you with the tax return itself).

For more information or to get help finding a program that may be abe to assist you, please give us a call on (908) 757-1111 ext.139.

Hidden Collections: Plainfield Black History Resources at Plainfield Public Library
Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11am via Zoom

This presentation highlights the various Black history resources specific to Plainfield available in the
Library’s archive. Because these records are “hidden” across multiple collections, it has been difficult for researchers, students, historians, and genealogists to locate them. This program will shed light on locating these valuable resources. There will be time for a Q&A following the presentation.
