From the Desk of the Director...

museum passes logos

Spring is just around the corner and weekend trips and activities come to mind with family and friends.

Take a look at our Museum Pass Program for fun weekend ideas for a quiet afternoon or a family excursion. This year we have expanded our program to include the Morris Museum and the Thomas Edison Center. Each of these are passes that can be borrowed from the Library for a family trip.

The Morris Museum, located in Morristown has exhibits as well as some great family activities. Take a look at https://morrismuseum.org to see what they have to offer. Looking at their website I was fascinated by their Mega Model Train Gallery and their Spark Lab. Could be a fun and active day for the family. There is also a Native American Gallery and Earth Science Gallery with fossils, rocks and minerals.

If history and innovation is more your speed take our passes for the Thomas Edison Center https://www.menloparkmuseum.org and see how the “Wizard of Menlo Park” changed the world of the 20th century. Located in Edison, New Jersey it is a short trip from Plainfield. There are also many other museum passes to choose from. These I have highlighted are our newest offerings.

If you know of a museum or an educational family entertainment site, let us know and we will see if there is a museum program we can add to our selections. As always, we are your library and are here to serve you.

Until next month,

Women in Union County History

Saturday, March 4, 2023
11:30AM in the ALD Room
This is an on-site program

Noted photographer, author, and educator, Nancy Ori will present a lecture and slide show based on her photographs currently on display at the Library. The program will highlight the story of women in Union County history. The images provide a balance of subject matter between the architecture, furniture, costumes, and artifacts that reflect the women and young girls who lived, worked, and played in Union County in earlier times. Some images are romantic in style and provide a contrast to the bold forms of kitchen tools and objects presented almost as sculptures, while some are of artistically composed room set-ups to provide more formal images and stories.

Come out to meet Nancy and see the exhibition before it leaves Plainfield! The exhibit ends on March 11, 2023.
