From the Desk of the Director...

This month we celebrate Women’s History Month, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and St. Patrick’s Day. March is a busy month. Join us as the Children’s Department celebrates Dr. Seuss with storytime and cupcakes for his birthday on March 4th. The Adult Book Club is reading The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, on March 27th - a fitting read for Women’s History Month. Adult Crafts will be in session on March 12th, so don’t forget to save a spot.

For history lovers we have a Zoom event on March 16th about Civil War Spies. Alisa Dupuy, Lady of History, will be entertaining us with tales of the American abolitionist and spy, Elizabeth Van Lew. Ms. Dupuy is always a speaker favorite.

Now that the warmer months are getting close, it’s time for family outings. Let me remind you all of our Museum Pass program. Passes are available to Plainfield residents with their library cards. To find a complete list of our subscription museums look on the website or ask at the Circulation Desk.

Remember to push your clocks ahead! March is the beginning of Daylight Savings Time.  Until next month, remember we are here to assist you.

As always,

Mary Ellen

Parade Photos Wanted!

This July is the 100th anniversary of Plainfield's Annual Fourth of July Parade. We are collaborating with Plainfield's Division of Parks & Recreation to create a photo retrospective exhibition. We are looking for community photos of past Plainfield parades, from any year, of floats, marchers, and bystanders. We welcome donations of photographs, but can also scan the images and return the originals to you. Photos can be dropped off during regular library hours, but we request that you contact us in advance. In addition, we are having a special program on Saturday, April 20th in celebration of Preservation Week, where we will collect photographs for donation and/or scanning. Call us at (908) 757 1111 ext. 136 or email localhistory@plfdpl.info.
