Plainfield Hip Hop Archive Exhibition Opens!

Kurtiss Jackson, donor of the Plainfield Hip Hop Archive Collection.

The Plainfield Public Library is pleased to announce the addition of a new collection to our local history archive. Long-time resident Kurtiss Jackson will make a formal donation of his 25-year archive of Hip Hop related prints, video, audio, memorabilia and ephemera on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

We encourage all community residents to attend. The exhibition of items from the collection will begin in May and include special presentations and topical workshops which will be detailed in the coming weeks. The exhibition will be located throughout the library building on both the main and lower levels.  Opening remarks will begin at 10 am in the Anne Louise Davis room, and will be followed by guest speakers and special activities throughout the day.


The exhibition is free to the public and will run through July 2016.

Plainfield Garden Tour

Sunday, June 12, 2016
11 am to 3 pm, $30 per person


We invite you to tour the amazing gardens located in Plainfield's historic neighborhoods. Many of the gardens have been newly landscaped in anticipation of the tour. Discover unusual plants and garden ideas that you will want to adapt to your own property.

Tickets may be purchased at the Plainfield Public Library or through PayPal on the library’s website. This fundraising event is sponsored by the Friends of the Plainfield Public Library, a 501c3 organization. Proceeds will support our Plainfield Award Winning Library.

Hip Hop Archive Think Tank: What is Hip Hop/Edutainment?

5:30 to 8 pm in the Anne Louise Davis Room


Join us for a livestreamed public discussion, hosted by Kurt Nice, about the merits of Hip Hop as an educational tool.  Come to the pre-discussion listening session at 5:30, when selected, recorded music related to the discussion will be played.  Feature music to include: Edutainment by BDP/KRSONE, Hip Hop Nation by Hakim Green, and Hamilton - An American Musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Exciting Programs for Young Adults

Let the Games Begin
The Library now has an Xbox 1 to host gaming tournaments on our big screen in the Anne Louise Davis room. A season of sports and racing -sim gaming events is planned over the next few weeks, inviting teens to go head-to-head to find out who's the champion.

Free Comic Book Day
The Library is particiapating in free comic book day on May 7th, and a limited number of comics will be available to give away - one per patron upon request.

Sorcery!
Sorcery! is a computer adaptation of Steve Jackson's choose-your-own-adventure books from the 80s. Join an ongoing collaborative adventuring team as we make our way across the wilderness, casting spells and escaping traps, every Thursday afternoon.

The Best of Plainfield: People, Places, and Things
2016 11th Annual Plainfield Photography Contest

Entry forms are now available for Plainfield Public Library's 11th annual photography contest. Each entrant may submit up to five contemporary photographs reflecting the 2016 theme.

Winners will be announced at an exhibit opening reception on Saturday, November 12, 2016, and an exhibit of winners and selected entries will be on display at the Library from November 12 through December 31. Further details about this year's contest, entry forms, and the judging process can be found online and are also available in Room 8 on the lower level and on the Information Table in the Library's Main Reading Room.
