May brings a fresh chapter to the library, filled with opportunities to explore, learn, and connect. As the days grow warmer, we’re excited to offer a variety of programs for all ages on the library steps. From engaging storytimes and arts and crafts to book clubs that spark lively discussion. Whether you’re looking to discover your next great read or uncover a new hobby, the library is here for you.
Although our building remains closed for construction until our Grand Reopening, there's no shortage of exciting things happening at our library! Take a look at our list of reading recommendations for Immigrant Heritage Month. You can check out these books and thousands more on Libby and Hoopla - free with your Plainfield Library card. Your card grants you 24/7 remote access to these apps and dozens of online databases more at no cost. We are also offering curbside pickup for books, new library cards, and seeds to grow your own garden.
We look forward to helping make your May full of inspiration and discovery. Keep reading to see all that we have in store.

Celebrating The Retirement Of Miss Marylou ❤️
In April, our team at the Plainfield Public Library held a retirement party for librarian Marylou and celebrated her 38 years of service to our community. She has welcomed thousands of young readers as they walked through our doors and helped them get started on their lifelong learning journey. She has seen our library through many changes, and we are thrilled to welcome this next chapter of her life! |

This Immigrant Heritage Month, we celebrate the stories that travel across borders and generations. From memoirs to novels, books by immigrant writers open windows into resilience, identity, and the meaning of home. Check out any of these books for children, teens, and adults to learn more about what it takes to make the journey and how to break barriers when you're adjusting to a new home. |

The May Read is The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, the first of Lilian Jackson Braun's extremely popular "The Cat Who..." cozy mystery novels featuring Quill, a newsman and former crime reporter (and also a temperamental Siamese cat named Koko). In this book, the world of modern art is a mystery to many. But for Jim Qwilleran, it turns into a mystery of another sort when his assignment for The Daily Fluxion leads down the path to murder.
Please call our Circulation Department at 908-757-1111 ext.1800 to schedule a time to pickup your free copy from the library or you can borrow it from another STELLA library.
