Food for Fines
|
|
The Plainfield Public Library has launched its annual FOOD FOR FINES campaign. For every non-perishable food item contributed by library borrowers, their overdue fines will be lowered by $1.00. Library cardholders can donate as many as 20 items toward their fine reduction.
Food donations are welcome from everyone, even those who do not owe a library fine.
All contributions received will be donated to Star Fish, the non-profit food pantry that is committed to stamping out hunger. Star Fish has been serving the greater Plainfield community since 1971.

Young Men of Resilience donate Board Games and puzzles to library
 |
| Young Men of Resilience |
The Children's library was grateful to receive puzzles and board games thanks to a drive organized by Young Men of Resilience, a Plainfield based mentor program that provides support to high achieving, gifted, and talented males as they matriculate through middle school, high school and post secondary education. Young Men of Resilience was founded by Sarah Cherry-Cadogan, in memory of her son Spencer Cadogan. The group's mission is to seek partnership with innovative programs that best
trascend young men into champions. To learn more about the organization, please visit their website.

Young Citizens
 |
| Children take Oath. |
On November 13, 2013, the Library hosted a Children’s Naturalization ceremony in the Children’s Library. Twelve children from eight different countries recited the oath and were sworn in by a representative of the United States Naturalization Service and became United States citizens. After the ceremony, Ms. People read poetry to the children. The event was followed by a small reception with red, white and blue cupcakes, and assortment of other refreshments. A face painter was on hand to create patriotic face art for the participants.
