From the Desk of the Director...

Library Director Mary Ellen Rogan

November begins the season when we particularly think of giving to those less fortunate then ourselves. So, as in the past, the library will be conducting our “Food for Fines” drive. Those with unpaid fines can bring in food for our local food banks and receive a credit towards the fine. One item is equal to one dollar in fines. The drive runs from November 1 until December 31. In this season of charity and giving please think of our neighbors in need and donate to the drive.

Remember our furry friends at the animal shelters too! Donations of food are always in need. All pet food donations will go to the Plainfield Area Humane Society `

On a final note, we will be more than happy to take your donation of food, even if you do not owe the library for fines!

Hope to see you!

Mary Ellen

Adults Craft Too!
New Program series for Adults

Heads up all our Adult Crafters! We have a series of programs for everyone 12-and-up featuring a range of crafting projects. Check out  the poster below for details. First up on December 3rd we have an Ornaments program in Room 2 at 7pm. All the programs are free and supplies are provided.

The program series will use Creative Bug (one of the library's two new creative database subscriptions along with Skillshare) to explore crafting techiniques and have a lot of fun. If you are interested in these or other craft, art and design projects, jump into Creative Bug or Skillshare for free using your library card! (See our Databases Page for further details.)

Keep on craftin'!

Macmillan Restricting Library Purchasing

Effective November 1st, eLibraryNJ (our eBook & eAudio lending service) will no longer purchase eBooks published by Macmillan and its subsidiaries.

This is due to the restrictions Macmillan has placed on eBook purchases by libraries. In addition, the Plainfield Public Library will not be purchasing any print or audio copies of Macmillan titles while their new policy is in place.

While we understand this may be an inconvenience for some users, we believe that supporting companies with restrictive policies is counter to the Library's mission of full and equal access to information.

You can learn more about the issue, and join us in letting Macmillan know that you oppose their new restrictions by visiting
ebooksforall.org and signing the petition there.
