Poetry Open Mic
Thursday, September 28th, 6:30 to 8 pm in the Anne Louise Davis room

September sees the Library once again host the very popular Poetry Open Mic night, with poetry and spoken word performances from the poets of Plainfield and beyond.

Anyone may attend and walk-ins are welcome if you would like to share your poetry with the audience, but please note that you must be over 11 years old to perform.

Join us for an evening of expression and powerful words.

Back To School with Tutor.Com


Did you know that you can get free access to tutor.com with your library card?

Tutor.com is a web-based tutoring service that allows students to connect live, 1-to-1 with qualified tutors who have a deep understanding of their subjects and the current curriculum. Students chat online with their tutor and use an interactive whiteboard to get a deeper understanding of the topics at hand. The service also offers overnight essay review services and will even review and comment on resumes for job seekers.

Tutor.com is ideal for homework or for study periods, helping the student to spend their time productively.

Tutors are available on tutor.com 7 days a week 3pm-10pm.

To use this service for free with your library card, you need to visit it through the library website. (Typing in tutor.com's commercial address url won't give you free access.)

Make a free My Intent Bracelet
Tuesday, September 19th, 4 pm in Room 5, for ages 11-17

This is a bracelet-making workshop for teens with a difference: My Intent workshops ask you to focus on creating a bracelet that means something to you: What virtue do you want more of in your life? What is a challenge you want to overcome? What are you passionate about and want to do more? Come find out what your word is, and make a free bracelet!

Tri-County History Fair
Saturday, September 30, 2017
11 am to 3 pm
(on the lower level)


Plainfield Public Library is happy to announce the 2017 Tri-County History Fair for Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties. Join fellow history lovers for a fun day of historical discovery, resource sharing, raffles, antiques appraisals, and more. A variety of libraries and archives, local authors, historical societies, and museums will be represented. A free raffle ticket will be given to each visitor upon initial entry. The raffle grand prize is an AncestryDNA testing kit. Speakers include Maxine Lurie (11:30 am), Seton Hall professor, author, and historian; and Eugene Armstead (2 pm), NJ Chapter President of the Afro American Historical & Genealogical Society.

The Fair will run from 11 am to 3 pm and will be located on the lower level of Plainfield Public Library. All activities will be indoors and are FREE to the public. For more information, contact the Local History Department.

Are you aged 11-17? Come and help shape the future for teens @ the Library.

The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) meets regularly to share ideas for future programming, work on projects, and nosh on a slice of pizza (while supplies last!).

If you're 11-17 and would like to help make programming for young people relevant and fun, come along and help make a difference!
