AFTER 8 WEEKS, WE ARE #3 WORLDWIDE ON SPORTS WATCH MONITOR
In week 8 we had our first losing week, going 3-4 after losing the late added Monday Night Football game when the Buccaneers failed to cover. Despite this, we retained our spot as the #3 overall handicapper in NFL football against almost 100 other handicappers at the long established site Sports Watch Monitor. Clearly, the mental game continues to matter!
If you know how hard it is to pick sides against a known spread, you realize how special it is to go 7 weeks in a row without a losing week! It had to eventually happen, and I am not the least bit concerned. The bottom line is that this algorithm is really doing well into our 3rd season of testing. After 8 weeks and the loss on Thursday Night Football in week 9, our comulative record is now:
152 - 106 - 12 (58.91%, +3569)
We lost the Thursday game in week 9 when the 49ers failed to cover against the Packers. Ironically, I analyzed this further and picked the Packers in all my contests, so I was not at all upset to see the Packers cover.
I make the picks for the Sports Watch Monitor and Football Shrink website earlier in the week than my contest picks. This works out about the same in terms of success. The benefits of getting an early line are great ... but they are sometimes offset by the knowledge gained later in the week even if the lines are not as good. You get the early picks, but for my contests I have to wait until they provide me a contest line and I sometimes wait till the end to try to grab an advantage.
Remaining games this week? I made official picks in the upcoming 5 games played on Sunday and Monday:
Bears at Titans
Panthers at Chiefs
Texans at Jaguars
Dolphins at Cardinals
Patriots at Jets
