“Some people think of me as just plain lucky. I would like to say, however, that a man might be walking around lucky and not know it unless he tries." - Arnold Palmer at the Masters

5th Annual Big Hole Tournament Results
Both days of our Bay Creek Big Hole Tournament on March 30 and 31 drew full fields of regional golfers and the large (15 inch) cups yielded some low scores.  Bay Creek members Joe Restein and Fur Robbins shot an amazing 23-under par 49 on Saturday to win the Championship Flight!  Bob O'Brien and Evan Orlando won the Third Flight on Saturday with a 9-under 63, Frank Hughlett and Asa Cooper topped the Fourth Flight and Gail and Steve Edwards finished second in the Second Flight
On Sunday, Restein and Robbins didn't play quite as well but still shot 54, good enough for second place.  Terry White and Jere Lynch took second place in the First Flight.  Joe Restein (No. 12 on Saturday) and Steve Edwards (No. 7 on Sunday) each won a Close-to-Pin award.  View the complete results for Saturday here and for Sunday here. Congratulations to all the Bay Creek members who competed!

The Wisdom of Jack Nicklaus
With eighteen professional major championships, two U.S. Amateurs and eight senior majors, Mr. Nicklaus is the all-time greatest champion in golf.  Below are some of his most enduring words and a tip that may help your game.
Although I have great affection for the Masters, as far as pure golf I'd rather play in the British Open than any other event.
I believe it's impossible for me to hit too soon with the clubhead.  When I need a swing thought, it's most often, Release! Use the clubhead!
With so much money in the pro game, conservative mediocrity sort of prevails.  The goal is to make a good living more than it is to win.  Yes, there's a lot of depth in the pro game.  If you took a large group of today's players and put them against the group from my prime, today's group would probably beat their brains out.  But I think our four or five top guys, as a group, would have beaten the top players of today.

An Arnold Palmer Story
By Joe Posnanski
It was 23 years ago, just before the Masters was to begin, and Arnold Palmer agreed to play 27 holes over two days with a promising young kid who wanted to pick his brain, a 20-year-old amateur by the name of, yes, Tiger Woods. A couple of days before they went out to play, another guy asked if he could join the group. His name was Jack Nicklaus.
So the three of them went out to play, this marvelous junction of time and space. Palmer was done as a competitive player – he had not made a Masters cut in a dozen years. Nicklaus was still young enough to dream; he had actually led the Masters after the first round a year earlier. And Woods was all promise and wonder. It would be a few more months before he even turned professional and a year before he altered golf with his mind-blowing performance at the 1997 Masters.
When they finished playing their practice rounds together, the media topic was, of course, Tiger. His power and poise had dazzled Palmer and Nicklaus. At the 13th hole, Woods hit a 215-yard 3-iron that left both of them gasping. At times he hit his drives so far, that Palmer would just break out laughing. “Arnold and I walked off the golf course, and we both agreed that you could take his Masters titles and my Masters titles and add them together, and this kid should win more that. This kid is the most fundamentally sound golfer that I’ve ever seen at any age,” Nicklaus said.  “He’s very impressive,” Palmer said.
So why would this be an Arnold Palmer story? Well, as it turns out, the three of them had a little money on the line because, after all, what fun would it be to play without some wagering. Woods hit the most remarkable shots. Nicklaus played the smartest shots. And ... Palmer took all the money. Well, of course he did. Arnold Palmer was one of the greatest golfers who ever lived. And, every golfer will tell you, he was even better when his own money was on the line.
