Spring Member Member Tournament Results

Joe Restein and Jake Savage shot an even par 72 in challenging weather conditions to win the Low Gross Division in the 2017 Spring Member-Member on the Nicklaus Course on May 20.  Winds were swirling as the competitors teed off and intensified as the round progressed. It was a tough day to play the Chapman Format, where both players tee off, hit each other’s second shot, pick the best one and alternate in from there.  Jamie Ibarra and Adam Wells shot a terrific net 62, 10 under par, to win the Net Division.  Dave Baudoin and Bob O'Brien finished 2nd Gross and Garrett Dunham and John Durmick were 2nd Net.  O'Brien (No. 4) and Stanley Grimes (No. 6) took the Close-to-Pin contests.

Bob O'Brien aced the 4th hole on the Nicklaus Course on May 16.  Bob hit a 7 Iron from 130 yards.  At the age of 76 and after many years of playing golf, it was his first hole-in-one.  Congratulations, Bob!

Exercises for Golfers – Part Four
This is the last in a series of articles about using the equipment in your Beach Club gym for a golf-specific workout.  I suggest training three or four days a week, for 30 minutes a session. You don't have to do all these exercises during every workout, but try to perform at least one from each major group: Back, Legs, Abdominals and Arms.
As with any kind of fitness training, stretching is very important. After each exercise of 15 to 20 reps, you should gently stretch the muscle you are working. This not only improves blood flow to the muscle but it will help make your muscles more flexible.
ABDOMINALS
Not only do the abdominal muscles play an important role in the swing, they also complement the back muscles. Strong abs can help prevent back injuries. Doing a lot of reps and stretches are the key.
The rotation of the torso in the golf swing is enhanced by strong abs. Strong abs increase the speed with which the body unwinds, adding distance to your shots. They also provide stamina to repeat the rotation and increase accuracy.
Crunches. Lie down on the floor on your back and bend your knees, placing your hands  across your chest.  Pull your belly button towards your spine, and flatten your lower back against the floor. Slowly contract your abdominals, bringing your shoulder blades about one or two inches off the floor. Hold at the top of the movement for a few seconds and slowly lower back down but dont relax all the way. Repeat for 12 - 15 repetitions.
Leg Raise.
Place your hands under your glutes with your palms facing down. Keep your legs as straight as possible.
Slowly raise your legs perpendicular to the floor. Hold the contraction at the top for a second, then slowly lower your legs to the start position. Repeat for 12 - 15 repetitions.
Plank. Get into pushup position on the floor and bend your elbows 90 degrees, resting your weight on your forearms. Your elbows should be directly beneath your shoulders, and your body should form a straight line from your head to your feet. Hold the position for as long as you can. Your goal should be to hold it for two minutes.

FootJoy on Tour
Wear the brand that is trusted by more than 60% of the world's best players - FootJoy. More players on Tour wear FootJoy than all other brands combined. That's right - combined.
With a swing speed of 124 MPH Adam Scott needs all the traction he can get. When asked why he trusts Pro SL, he replied, "Because it provides the best traction of any golf shoe I have ever worn". Pro SL is a comfortable, lightweight, spikeless shoe worn by more tour players than any other golf shoe.
Zach Johnson wears DryJoys Tour because it provides the ultimate platform stability he demands to keep him grounded during his golf swing. Along with providing incredible stability, DryJoys Tour is crafted from beautiful leathers and offers timeless styling.
Jimmy Walker chooses HYPERFLEX II because for him, it is the perfect combination of stability, support, and cushioning. HYPERFLEX II is lightweight and incredibly comfortable with athletic styling.
Stop in the Golf Shop and together we can figure out what shoe is best for you. You might not play up to the standards of Adam, Zach or Jimmy, but finding the proper golf shoe is a definitely a step in the right direction.  We also offer the popular FootJoy apparel line, adorned with the Bay Creek logo, of course.

Palmer and Nicklaus at the U.S. Open

After Hord Hardin of the USGA informed Arnold Palmer in May 1969 that no special exemption will be made for him at the U.S. Open, sports writers and even Jack Nicklaus criticized the ruling.  “Absolutely ridiculous," Nicklaus said. "After all that man has done for the game, after all he’s won, I just can’t see how they can leave him out. They gave Hogan an exemption for one year. Why can’t they do it for Palmer? He belongs there.” Nicklaus insists there should be a lifetime exemption for past champions.

Palmer had no other choice but join other aspiring golfers in attempting to qualify so on June 15th, Palmer tees off with Lew Worsham at Youghiogheny Country Club, Pittsburgh, in the sectional qualifier for the upcoming U.S. Open at Champions Golf Club in Houston. Palmer shoots 70-68 to earn one of eight slots available for the championship. “I guess there’s a little spark in the old man yet,” Palmer says. USGA rules are later amended so Open champions like Palmer would no longer have to qualify.

Palmer went on the finish T6 at Champions Golf Club in Houston while Nicklaus ended up T25.  Sgt. Orville Moody was the winner.
