2017 Hunting Season
Bay Creek South has arranged for an organized dear kill effort again this year to coincide with the permitted hunt season which commences October 5th (bow hunting); the gunning season begins in November. The season ends the first week in January, 2018. The hunt will take place on lands owned by Bay Creek South in the same manner as the hunt that was conducted last year. The hunters will be shooting downward from elevated deer stands on Bay Creek South property only and not near homes or on Association property. The safety of owners is the priority with the hunters, all of whom are licensed and experienced. Nonetheless, please exercise caution and avoid walking through areas that are not part of the Association’s Common Area during this period.

Quote of the Month
Arnold Palmer was asked why, despite being involved in some heated rivalries, he’s never publicly disparaged an opponent. He says it was how he was raised: “My Pap taught me when I was a boy to be a gentleman. It’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten. I wanted to win as much as anybody who ever played this game, but I never wanted to win so badly that I would hurt somebody else. I never saw how it would help my game to be mean to another player. When I first started doing this, I had a young wife and we were about $4,000 in the hole. And even then I was never nasty to anybody. I’ve never seen how that can help anybody’s game.”

Jack Nicklaus and the Northern Trust

Arnie & Jack at the 1967 Westchester

Fifty years ago, and long before the introduction of the World Golf Rankings, one sportswriter in Reading, Pa. asked what’s now become an age-old question, “Who’s the greatest golfer?” At the time, the debate was between Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.
At the date of publication, a 27-year-old Nicklaus was fresh off the heels of his victory in the inaugural Westchester Classic at Westchester Country Club, with rounds of 67-69-65-71. He went on to win the event again in 1972, becoming the first multiple winner of the tournament that evolved to become the PGA TOUR’s The Northern Trust at Glen Oaks Club—just 35 miles down the road—and the first leg of the FedExCup Playoffs.
For his victory, Nicklaus won $50,000. This year's winner, Dustin Johnson, received $1.575 million—a payout 31.5 times the size of the Golden Bear’s check. Some things change and some things stay the same.
