Community Spotlight!
Looking for ways to get connected with the greater Twin Cities Pole Community? Head into Minneapolis on Saturday August 9th for a free event with the Twin Cities Pole Collective.

The Twin Cities Pole Collective (TCPC) is an independent, non-studio affiliated community of pole dancers in the Twin Cities. Their mission is to provide a reliable, accessible, and collaborative resource for Twin Cities Pole Dancers by leveraging social media platforms, creating collaborative events & activities, and presenting accessible data & research.

They are celebrating 1 year of community events & activities with this everyone's-invited, freestyle showcase event! They will have stage poles set up at La DoĂąa CervecerĂa in Minneapolis, where any and all pole dancers are welcome to freestyle perform to a random song! Starting at 5:30 PM, sets are divided into four categories: Cupcake is for sweet, sugary, and cute vibes, Candle is for a slow and sensual burn, Wish is for vulnerable and self-reflective music, and Pop is for sporty, bubbly, and hype.

Come and perform yourself, or just come to hang out, meet more pole dancers, make more friends, and get connected to the larger Twin Cities pole community! Entry is free for all those who RSVP via the TCPC Google Form, otherwise entry to the public is $10 in advance, $15 day-of.

🧜🏻‍♀️ BONUS: Our studio owner Ann will be a feature performer representing Spinning Sirens at this event, so come out to cheer her on!

This will be a monthly meet-up for pole dancers 40 and over—open to anyone in the Twin Cities, no matter your studio or experience level. Even if you've never touched a pole but have always wanted to, this could be your soft landing into our sparkly world. ✨

💖 This is not a class—it’s a community.

🌊 What we’re planning:

  • Monthly 60–90 min gatherings at Spinning Sirens (our studio is donating the space 💕)

  • A supportive, judgment-free space to connect, move, share, and grow

  • Free to attend

  • Optional group showcase acts, photoshoots, studio collaborations, and outside-the-studio hangouts

  • View the working draft of the charter HERE

📅 We’re planning our first meetup for late August 2025, and yes—group name is still TBD (we’ll decide together during our first session!).

We’re currently looking for:

  • Interest (would you want to attend?)

  • A Leader & Co-Leader (you do not need to be an instructor—just someone with heart and a little organization magic ✨)

  • We are currently gathering interest with the goal to host our first Pole Over 40 Jam in late August 2025.

Valentia's Vault: A Note from Studio Owner Ann

🔍 What to Wear for Pole (and Where to Find It)👙

When you're just starting out in pole, a basic tee or tank top with some loose-fitting jogger shorts is exactly what you need. You’ll get enough skin exposure on your knees and inner thighs to grip for beginner moves like sits, climbs, jasmines, and genies. No need to bare it all on day one—unless you want to (and if you do, we fully support that vibe). But as you start progressing and learning more advanced tricks, you’ll find that having more skin exposed isn’t just about the look—it’s a functional necessity. After a few classes, I personally wanted to try tighter booty shorts, shorts with garters (yes, please), and smaller tops that left my armpits and belly free for grip. Pole is sexy fun—and sometimes, we want to look the part while sticking the move.

So why do pole dancers wear so little clothing? Simple: skin grip = safety. You can’t safely climb, sit, or invert in regular fabric—your skin needs to touch the pole to hold you up. The more advanced you get, the more grip you need. For some dancers, it’s also about empowerment, confidence, and self-expression. But let’s be real—not everyone feels comfy baring it all, and that’s completely valid too. The good news is that there are amazing options now: think grippy leggings, longer shorts, high-neck tops, and smart cuts that let you stick without stripping down. Let’s break down your options—from modest to bold—and where to shop without falling into the dreaded Too-Narrow-Crotch Trap. 👀

🛍️ 1. Ballin’ on a Budget: Thrift, Target, & Walmart Finds

You do not need to drop half your paycheck on pole clothes to get started. Some of the best beginner polewear can be found at secondhand stores or even in your own closet. Thrift and consignment shops are goldmines for:

  • Gently used activewear

  • Cute swimsuit bottoms (especially cheeky cuts or high-leg styles)

  • Sports bras that offer support and style

  • Cozy joggers or sweatpants for warm-up and cooldown

Don’t sleep on Target or Walmart either—especially in the swimwear and athletic sections. You can often find affordable, cute pieces that work perfectly for pole (and let’s be honest, if they hold up in water, they’ll survive a spin). One tip: watch out for shorts with a long crotch seam—those will get in the way unless you can hike them up or roll them. If you’re digging around for bargains, always check stretch, comfort, and how much skin you’re freeing up.

💻 2. Fast Fashion Finds: Shein, Temu, and Amazon

If you’re on the hunt for trendy, body-hugging, and pole-friendly pieces without the boutique price tag, fast fashion sites like Shein, Temu, and Amazon are packed with options. You’ll find:

  • Booty shorts with garters, mesh panels, or cutouts

  • Swimsuits that double as polewear (especially cheeky bikini bottoms and strappy tops)

  • Lingerie sets that look risquĂŠ but still let you move freely

  • Crop tops and halters with open backs or side cuts for grip

These sites are great if you want to experiment with different styles without committing to one expensive set. That said—check reviews and always read sizing charts, because quality and fit can be inconsistent. Also, double check crotch width on bottoms (again, some of these were clearly designed for mannequins with no labia).

Pro tip: search terms like “pole dance set”, “bikini cut shorts”, or “aerial wear” to find the hidden gems.

👠 3. Support Local: Clubwear Boutiques & Adult Fashion Retailers

Don’t sleep on your local shops that cater to club dancers—these clubwear boutiques and adult fashion retailers are packed with pole-ready options. They often carry:

  • Pole heels (including Pleasers and beginner-friendly platforms)

  • Booty shorts, bodysuits, and dancewear with actual grip in mind

  • Mesh, fishnet, sparkle, and fun accessories you can’t find in big box stores

  • Curve-friendly styles you can try on before you commit

And yes—you can shop there even if you’re not a professional performer. If it fits, grips, and makes you feel badass, it belongs on the pole.

Local favorites include:

  • Venus Unlimited in Minneapolis

  • Enchantasys (multiple Twin Cities locations)

  • Fantasy Gifts in the south metro

Shopping local not only supports businesses that have been serving dancers for years, but also gives you the chance to find unique pieces you won’t see on every other Instagram reel.

✨ 4. One-of-a-Kind Looks: Etsy for Custom + Showcase Pieces

When you want something extra, something unique, or something that screams main character energy, Etsy is where it’s at. You’ll find:

  • Handmade polewear sets with rhinestones, fringe, harnesses, or mesh

  • Custom sizing and color options—perfect for when you want it to fit just right

  • Unique showcase or comp outfits you won’t see duplicated at the studio

  • Indie designers who understand pole grip and performance needs

It’s also a great place to support small makers and artists in the pole community. Many Etsy sellers are dancers themselves and know how to create outfits that work on the pole—not just ones that look good standing still.

Pro tip: Search terms like “pole dance costume”, “custom polewear”, or “aerial outfit” to discover shops making beautiful, grip-friendly art you can move in.

💎 5. Treat Yourself: Premium Polewear Brands Worth the Investment

Once you’re ready to level up into premium gear, there’s a whole world of high-quality, beautifully constructed polewear out there. These pieces are great for frequent training, performance prep, or just because you want to feel damn good in class.

You can shop top brands at:

My personal favorites:

  • Dragonfly – Clean lines, compressive fits, and great for modest-to-mid coverage

  • CXIX – Sleek, bold, and perfect for baddie energy

  • Cleo the Hurricane – Loud, unapologetic, and built for show-offs

  • Oksa Wear – Delicate, artsy, and Instagram-worthy

Most of these brands last forever, feel amazing on the skin, and are well worth the splurge.

🧘‍♀️ 6. Want More Coverage? Modest + Grippy Polewear That Works

Not everyone wants to rock booty shorts and a crop top in class—and you absolutely don’t have to. Whether you're more comfortable staying covered, dancing in a colder studio, or just want to keep your legs off-limits, there are grippy clothing options designed specifically for that.

The gold standard?

  • Super Fly Honey – The go-to brand for modest, grippy leggings, tops, and full-coverage polewear. These pieces are engineered for friction and function, without sacrificing movement or style. Highly recommended for anyone nervous about skin exposure but still wanting to nail their climbs and sits.

Other options:

  • Dragonfly – Offers high-waisted shorts and longer-line tops with more coverage and great compression

  • Shein – Yes, they carry some grippy leggings and sticky tops (just know the quality can be hit or miss—but it’s an affordable starting point)

  • Amazon – Search for “sticky leggings” or “grip polewear” for a range of styles, including affordable dupes of big brands

Whether you’re easing into polewear slowly or just prefer a little more fabric between you and the pole, there are tons of ways to dress for class your way—and still grip like a pro.
