🥸Trick Inflation🧜♀️
If you’ve spent any time in the pole world, you may have noticed something interesting: tricks that once felt advanced or rare now show up regularly in intermediate classes, student showcases, and social media feeds. This phenomenon is often called trick inflation.
Like any “inflation,” it doesn’t mean tricks are getting easier—it means expectations and exposure are changing.
In many ways, trick inflation highlights something exciting and positive: growth.
Today’s pole community has access to more resources than ever before. There are more studios, online platforms, instructional libraries, books, dedicated trick apps, conventions, workshops, and competitions. Coaching methods have evolved dramatically, supported by a larger and more diverse pool of instructors with different specialties and teaching styles.
As pole continues to gain mainstream popularity, more students are also entering with backgrounds in gymnastics, dance, cheer, aerial arts, and strength training. Naturally, this raises the average skill level seen in everyday classes.
The upside? Students often progress faster, exposure to creative movement is endless, and skills that once took years to discover are now more accessible and better understood. Higher standards can push innovation and open doors to movements that may not have been commonly taught a decade ago.
But there’s another side to the conversation.
When difficult skills become highly visible, it can create the illusion that rapid progression is normal—or expected. Social media compresses timelines, and it’s easy to forget that behind a polished video may be years of training, conditioning, failed attempts, and consistency. Students may feel pressure to collect tricks instead of building strong foundations or developing movement quality.
Neither perspective is entirely right or wrong.
Progress in pole isn’t a race against changing standards. The reality remains surprisingly old-fashioned: sustainable progress still comes from the same ingredients it always has—time, consistency, recovery, and patience.
Trick inflation doesn’t mean the bar has moved beyond reach. It simply means the sport has evolved.
And that evolution is part of what makes watching pole grow so fascinating.

🧜♀️ Siren of the Month: Olive🦈
Let’s give a massive shoutout to our stunning Siren of the Month, Olive (They/Them)! Olive swung into our studio this past December after their parkour gym closed, looking for a fresh way to keep moving and finally fulfill a long-held dream of diving into pole and circus arts. They quickly fell in love with the flight, finding their passion divided beautifully between pole and lyra. Nowadays, you can find them crushing it in pole tricks with Kacie, exploring the hoop in lyra with Laura, or documenting their growth online. Make sure to give them a follow at @phthalo_blue_aerial to show some love on their latest aerial videos!
Every incredible aerialist needs a solid cheering section, and Olive’s biggest supporter is hands-down their mom. Even though she might not always fully understand the exact logistics of the gravity-defying moves—whether it's parkour flips or circus shapes—she absolutely loves seeing how much passion and pure excitement Olive has for this community. We are so incredibly proud of Olive's dedication, strength, and vibrant energy. Congratulations, Olive, we are so lucky to have you soaring with us!
