Valentia's Vault
A Note from Studio Owner Ann

Why Slowing Down is the Ultimate Pole Level-Up

We all know the feeling. You’re scrolling through social media, and you see it—the latest, gravity-defying shape that everyone is trying. Instantly, your brain screams, I need to do that right now. The craving for that dopamine hit when you finally nail a brand-new trick is incredibly real, and honestly, it’s a huge part of why pole is so addicting. It is completely human to want that rush, and you shouldn't feel bad for craving it.

But what if the real magic isn't waiting at the apex of the next high-level trick? What if it’s hiding in the foundation you’ve already built?

The Mind-Boggling Math of Your Current Level

Sometimes we rush to advance because we think we’ve "finished" a level. But let’s look at the actual data. In Ann’s book, the sheer volume of movement available in the foundational stages is staggering. There are 52 level 1 tricks. Move up just a half-step to level 1.5, and there are 211 tricks. By the time you reach level 2, you are looking at a massive library of 578 tricks. That is more than 800 movements before you even touch advanced training.

When you look at the numbers, it becomes clear that rushing ahead means leaving hundreds of beautiful, strong shapes on the table. There is an entire universe to explore right where you are currently standing. Clean up what you have, unlock the depth of your current level, and realize just how much room you have to grow without ever climbing higher.

Face Your Nemesis Move

We all have that one move. You know the one. For a lot of people, it's the Brass Monkey. It feels awkward, it hurts, or it just frustrates you, so you bypass it in favor of something newer and flashier.

Instead of chasing the next big trend, try leaning into the discomfort of the shapes you currently dislike. Commit to getting genuinely good at them. Clean up the entries, smooth out the exits, and find stability in the positions that make you sweat. Refining a move that used to defeat you delivers a much deeper, more sustainable satisfaction than simply surviving a sloppy attempt at a trick you aren't ready for yet.

Look Back to Move Forward

Slowing down doesn't mean your progress stalls. It just means you are shifting your focus from vertical speed to horizontal depth. Start playing with variations of the shapes you already know. Change your grip, tilt your torso, or alter your leg lines to create something entirely fresh from a familiar foundation.

Another incredible tool is your own history. Go back and watch your old training videos from six months or a year ago. Find an old sequence or pass that you used to struggle with and rerun it today. Take that old choreography and inject it with your current experience, cleaner lines, and stronger intention. You will be amazed at how different a familiar sequence feels when you approach it with seasoned strength rather than frantic energy.

Give yourself permission to slow down. Polish your foundations, explore the vast map of your current level, and build a practice that is beautiful, sustainable, and entirely yours.

Siren Of The Month

🧜‍♀️ Siren of the Month: Bri🧜‍♀️

We are thrilled to announce Bri as our newest Siren of the Month! Bri’s pole journey kicked off in October 2025 when her best friend and roommate—a five-year pole veteran—convinced her to tag along to an open apparatus session. It was love at first spin, and she has been unstoppable ever since, gravitating toward trick-focused classes where she can rapidly expand her mental index of movements. Bri quickly found her stride and her community here, even securing her very first win at a PSO competition with coaching from her instructor and name-twin, Bree. Alongside the guidance of Ann and Kacie, and the endless patience of her best friend through every triumph and injury, Bri has truly flourished within her siren family.

When she isn't inside the studio, Bri admits that not an hour goes by without her brainstorming new combos and thinking about how she can safely push her physical limits. She is currently leveling up her training to tackle major goals like the Bird of Paradise, the Spatchcock, and a straight-leg shoulder mount, though she will always love executing a beautiful Ballerina or a thrilling suicide spin. For anyone just stepping onto the floor for the first time, Bri offers some beautifully grounded advice: block out the external noise and focus entirely on your own path. She reminds us that people will always have opinions, but as long as you are happy and being safe, the world is your oyster—a mindset that has brought her immense personal strength and unbreakable confidence.
