Which Level Am I? Understanding Pole Levels at Spinning Sirens 🧜🏻‍♀️

If you’ve ever wondered what “level” you are in pole, you’re not alone! Levels can be confusing—especially since every studio defines them a little differently. That’s why we created our brand-new “Which Level Am I?” flowchart and Class Level Guide to help you navigate our curriculum with confidence.

💫 What’s Up With All These Levels?

Pole dance levels aren’t standardized across the industry. Some studios use beginner/intermediate/advanced, while others add sub-levels (1.5, 2.5, etc.) to track progression more precisely.

At Spinning Sirens, we use Levels 1–5 to help students find classes that match their strength, skills, and goals.

Here’s our breakdown:

  • Level 0: Intro to Pole – For total beginners who’ve never touched a pole.

  • Level 1: Beginner – Ground-bound fundamentals like spins, holds, and climbs.

  • Level 1.5: Higher Beginner – Tricks from climbing height with invert preparation.

  • Level 2: Intermediate – Inverting from the floor and holding basic leg hangs.

  • Level 2.5: Higher Intermediate – You’ve got solid inverts and are learning combos.

  • Level 3: Advanced – Shoulder mounts, aerial inversions, and dynamic combos.

  • Level 4 (Elite) and Level 5 (Professional) aren’t currently offered as specific courses, but students at these levels will find challenge and inspiration in our All Levels, PoleCraft, and Freestyle classes.

🧠 Why Levels Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All

Your “level” might differ between studios—or even between different pole styles. Someone could be advanced in spins and transitions but still working toward aerial inversions, and that’s completely normal. Progression in pole is unique to your body, strength, and training frequency.

At Spinning Sirens, we treat levels as a guide, not a rulebook. Our instructors are here to help you choose classes that push you just enough while keeping you safe and confident.

🌊 How to Find Your Level

Use our new flowchart (“Which Level Am I?”) to get a quick idea of where you land, then check the Class Level Guide to see which classes are best for you.

If you want an in-depth check-in, try our Pole Progress Checkpoint class—your instructor will walk you through strength tests, skill assessments, and a plan for your next phase of pole progress.

💪 Bottom Line

Pole is a journey, not a race. Whether you’re climbing for the first time or perfecting aerial combos, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. The only wrong level is the one that keeps you from showing up.

Explore your level, join your next class, and let’s fly, Sirens!

✨ Student Spotlight: Jessica Connell  ✨

Jessica restarted her pole journey in April 2025 and has been making incredible progress ever since. She was looking for a new way to move her body and knew she wanted to dance while seeing her strength and abilities grow — and pole has given her exactly that.

Her favorite apparatus is pole, and she especially loves heels class with Nicki. In her words, “It’s a new way to challenge myself and be sexy!” Right now, she’s working on gaining more confidence in her Jasmine and improving her shoulder flexibility to get into a Ballerina. She says she feels strongest in shapes that start from a pole sit.

Jessica doesn’t have a full playlist yet, but she’s inspired by songs like Ocean Eyes by Billie Eilish, Sweet but Psycho by Ava Max, and Gooey by Glass Animals — all perfect for a showcase.

When asked what advice she’d give to others just starting out, she shared:

“Yes, it’s hard and pinchy at first, but let your practice be your escape. Focus on the movement, and feeling it all through your body, and don’t give up. If you keep coming back, you will see progress; and THAT is wildly fulfilling.”

Training has had a big impact on her life outside the studio too. She’s regained confidence she didn’t realize she’d lost — caring less about what she wears or what others think, and advocating for herself more. She’s also built strength in her arms and grip.

Jessica says she’s “super grateful for the support of my instructors and my friends — they are the real ones!!”
