🌊 Why Do I Need to Warm Up Before Pole?
At Spinning Sirens, we love diving right into the fun stuff—spins, climbs, tricks, and flows that make you feel like a powerful, glittering mermaid. 🧜♀️ But before we hit the pole, there’s one ritual we
always honor: the warm-up.
Skipping a warm-up is like cannonballing into icy water—you might make it, but your body won’t be happy about it. A good warm-up gets your muscles, joints, and mind ready for the magic to come.
Why Warming Up Matters:
-
Injury Prevention 🛡️ – Pole challenges your shoulders, wrists, hips, and spine. Warming up reduces the risk of strains, tweaks, and overuse injuries.
-
Better Performance ⚡ – Warm muscles fire more efficiently. That means stronger climbs, smoother spins, and cleaner tricks.
-
Flexibility Boost 🧘 – Circulation and mobility improve once your body’s awake. This helps you move deeper into stretches and shapes safely.
-
Mindset Shift 💖 – Warm-ups aren’t just about the body. They’re a mental switch—your chance to leave the day behind and focus fully on your training.
How Long Should You Warm Up?
This depends on your level and what you’re planning to train.
-
Beginners → 5–10 minutes is usually enough. Think light cardio, shoulder rolls, hip circles, and a few dynamic stretches. You just need to get warm, mobile, and focused.
-
Intermediate to Advanced → More time, more detail. A longer warm-up is crucial because advanced tricks demand greater strength, control, and mobility. Complex moves put extra stress on your neuromuscular system, joints, and connective tissues. Skipping this step could mean struggling through your training—or worse, sidelining yourself with an injury.
-
Ann’s Reality Check → Our studio owner, Ann, is no stranger to marathon warm-ups. Her personal warm-ups often last 30–45 minutes before even touching advanced pole work. Why? Because prepping thoroughly allows her to push harder, move safer, and progress faster. Think of it as insurance for your body—and an investment in your pole journey.
What’s Next?
Warm-up videos will be added soon to our Siren Skills Tracker. You’ll be able to follow along, learn proper prep for every level, and keep your body safe and ready for success—whether you’re brand-new or leveling up to advanced tricks.
✨ Bottom line: A warm-up isn’t wasted time. It’s the
foundation of your training. Take it seriously, and you’ll feel stronger, move better, and keep your pole journey sustainable for years to come.
See you in class, Sirens—warmed up, glowing, and ready to slay. 💕

✨ Student Spotlight: Megan Scully ✨
Megan Scully joined Spinning Sirens in July and has quickly become an inspiring part of our community. She was looking for a way to build strength and mobility that wasn’t just lifting weights, and she found exactly that here—a form of training that feels both empowering and creative.
Her favorite apparatus so far has been the silks, where she enjoys the unique challenge and flow they bring. But she also loves pole tricks class, especially the feeling of learning new skills and noticing her strength grow week by week. Megan’s current goal is to master her invert by the end of the year, and she’s putting in the hard work to get there.
Training has already made a big impact in her life outside the studio, boosting her confidence and helping her feel stronger, more capable, and proud of what her body can do. Megan says the support she’s received from instructors and fellow students has been a huge part of her journey, making Spinning Sirens feel like a truly welcoming and uplifting community.
We’re so proud to celebrate Megan’s progress and positivity this month! You can follow along with her journey on Instagram at @meg_scully1.
