Project Updates

Transforming Distance Education Course
Did you know that the EdTech Center offers a free, self-paced course on teaching online for educators? We recently updated the course with small enhancements based on user feedback. Have a look and let us know what you think via this Google form! And if you’re interested in using the course files on your program’s LMS, please contact techsupport@worlded.org.

Events & Announcements

Join us this summer for our exciting Summer 2021 Maker Camp Series of content jams and design slams! During these digital co-creation “jamborees”, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues around the country. We’ll brainstorm and generate content (content jams) and activity ideas (design slams) to help increase the range of digital-skills focused vocabulary resources and performance based activities available to adult education learners and instructors! Basically, all the (digital) arts and crafts fun of camp, minus the sunburns, scrapes, and bug bites.

What We're Reading

Do No Harm Guide:
Applying Equity Awareness in Data Visualization
Urban Institute has published guidance for data practitioners on how to work with an equity lens. The goal of the publication is to promote thoughtful data collection, analysis, data visualization, and communication to avoid misleading representations with the potential to compound or perpetuate racial inequity and discrimination.

Remote ESOL Project
Website & Resources Launched!

Last week, we launched our Remote ESOL project site and presented learnings, promising innovations, and policy recommendations in a national webinar. Watch the recording here. Our website holds information for teachers, administrators, policy makers, and researchers interested in leveraging educational technology to support enrollment, attendance, achievement, and completion in remote ESOL programming for adults. The information here stems from six months of research done to uncover examples of promising practices and programming most of which sprung up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic – when remote instruction and distance education were the only modalities of learning possible in many places.

Last month, we launched a hub for digital inclusion resources and corresponding playbook. The Digital Navigator Playbook is a comprehensive guide that details the steps and considerations programs should take as they set up or improve their Digital Navigator services.
