New On Tech Tips

Using Learning Upgrade with
Literacy-Level ESOL Learners

This post describes how Cedar Riverside Adult Education Collaborative, an urban community-based organization (CBO) in Minnesota, used Learning Upgrade to support learning during the pandemic. A series of informal conversations with the program coordinator, program registrar, teachers, and ESOL Literacy students showed how the organization’s unique approach to onboarding attracted students to the program and increased motivation to learn outside of class. The structure and presentation within the app helped teachers clarify their instruction and assisted literacy-level ESOL learners in using the app independently. Finally, the gamified feel of Learning Upgrade provided a fun and engaging way to learn English remotely.
