New Resource to Support Quality Remote Instruction:
Remote Instruction Observation Tool
Together with IDEAL Consortium partners, we are excited to share this new remote instruction observational evaluation tool. This evaluation tool supports teacher professional development by identifying clear criteria in four domains and using specific statements to describe what teachers and learners are doing.  In this blog post, tool author Amy Poland writes about how it came about and how it will be used in adult education in Maine.

Events & Announcements

Distance Education Strategy Sessions
Join the EdTech Center and partners on these webinars scheduled Fridays at 10:00 Pacific, 12:00 Central, 1:00 Eastern. Each webinar will feature lightning talks, breakout discussions, and group Q&A. On Friday, September 10, 2021, hear how educators at Queens Public Library in New York and Peninsula Regional Educational Program (PREP) in Virginia have built innovative and scalable models that increase access to English language training, career pathway transitions, and support economic opportunity for language learners. Tadd Wamester from the EnGen team will share more about how their web & mobile platform and curriculum has been leveraged as an effective tool for workforce and career-focused English language learning.
September 19 to September 25 is National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week! This year, activities will focus on the life-changing role of adult education in enabling equal access to societal resources, employment opportunities, and fully integrating into society. Another aim is to boost support for basic education programs for U.S. adults with low literacy and numeracy skills, and advocates are taking advantage of this event to promote literacy for adults and families across the nation with policymakers, the media, and the community.
In the future, learners will seek out educational opportunities repeatedly over the course of their working lives. On Sep 23, 2021 at 2:30 PM, Long Life Learning: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Even Exist Yet author Michelle R. Weise will discuss the much-needed learning ecosystem to support this demographic and outline the work that is necessary to prepare the next generation of workers (and ourselves) for that future.
