Persona Development:
Unpacking the Process

The 21st Century Ecosystem Learning Opportunities (21CLEO) research group has been studying the characteristics of employer supported educational opportunities that support persistence and engagement. An important step in this work was to understand more about the learners participating. The team offers a description of the process used to craft personas of “typical” learners who participate for these purposes: to fulfill a requirement of their current job, to fill a basic skills gap, or to attain a degree or some other credential.

NEW! Upcoming Course + National Webinar

Save the date! The EdTech Center @ World Education is excited to launch a new professional development offering: the Transforming Distance Education course. This course will be freely available on the EdTech Center website and includes microlearning content organized in the following modules: 

  • Getting Started with Distance Education & Blended Learning
  • Outreach, Screening, & Orientation: Supporting Distance Learners from the Start
  • Effective Distance and Blended Learning Instruction
  • Assessment in Distance and Blended Learning

Our team will host a webinar on Tuesday, September 29th at 1 PM Eastern and introduce the course including the skills you will gain, digital microcredentials available, and options for using and adapting the learning content in your own professional learning initiatives.

ISTE:
SkillRise Course

ISTE's SkillRise initiative is offering a free online course this fall designed to help adult learning organizations develop technology implementation plans. The 10-week course was written by World Ed's Jen Vanek and Jeff Goumas, and will support your team in shaping a new vision for adult and workforce learning and is facilitated by experts in adult learning and edtech. UNESCO Mobile Learning Week 2020

The online edition of Mobile Learning Week 2020 will be held from October 12 - 14, 2020, with this year's theme being Beyond Disruption: Technology Enabled Learning Futures. Mobile Learning Week (MLW) is the United Nations’ flagship event on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education and has been organized by UNESCO and its partners for eight years consecutively. Event registration and a call for workshop, symposium, and innovations presentations are now open!

mEducation Alliance Symposium’s
Play Every Day Virtual Event

The COVID-19 pandemic has put in sharp focus the timely need for creative responses to support learners around the world, particularly when traditional educational delivery models are upended. Games, Play, and Technology can be used to support learners, particularly in non-traditional learning environments. This year the mEducation Alliance decided to expand the symposium into a series of virtual monthly events bringing together non-tech and tech global ed game developers, with play-based experts, with education specialists, and policymakers all focused on supporting learners in low-resource, developing country context.

Play Every Day is the largest event put on by the mEducation Alliance Symposia series on Play & Technology for Lifelong Learning, which features an amazing line-up of 70+ presenters from around the world highlighting a range of tech and non-tech play-based interventions for formal and non-formal educational settings. The National Immigration Forum, Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education and the EdTech Center @ World Education have teamed up to deliver a webinar for Welcoming Week 2020 that you won’t want to miss! We’ll cover the following:

  • Explore learnings and effective practices from an industry-contextualized, 100% remote English training program centered on building the language skills that immigrant workers need to be successful at their jobs and increase advancement opportunities;
  • Tools and approaches used to deliver online learning and remote live instruction, including tips for adapting in-person instruction for distance learning; and
  • Strategies for building multi-sector partnerships to increase access and create welcoming communities.
