Math and ESOL, A Winning Combination

By Pam Meader
Integrating curriculum is nothing new to ESOL teachers, but many times ESOL teachers feel less prepared to discuss math topics with their learners. Many ESOL teachers may not feel comfortable with math themselves, as math was taught procedurally requiring memorization to get through a math class. Since the Mathematizing ESOL series was introduced three years ago, some ESOL teachers have approached this course with trepidation but soon found their fears diminished. There were many reasons for this change.
Issue 47 Call For Articles

The theme of this issue is:
MATH!

We use it all the time – deciding when to leave the house in order to arrive at work on time, figuring out sale prices, understanding our budgets and our paychecks, and making sense of data presented in charts and graphs at work, in the media, and in our communities. With this issue,  The Change Agent will focus on students’ experience with numeracy. We want to hear your stories of how you use math in your life, where you would like to use it more, and what works for you when it comes to improving numeracy skills.
