February 2024 (Feb 2024)
We are almost halfway through Winter and already longing for Spring. However, February is packed with holidays and special events as we move through the final full month of Winter. This month we celebrate Black History Month, Valentine's Day and Presidents Day. We are excited to bring a selection of programming to celebrate all of these February events.

January 2024 (Dec 2023)
2024 is upon us and we at the Library are looking forward to implementing ideas from our Strategic Plan. We will be improving signage around the Library by adding bilingual directions and handouts for the public. We will also be ordering comfortable seating in some of the open spaces in the Main Reading Room.

December 2023 (Dec 2023)
We are closing out 2023 and we at the Library have been busy. A lot has happened along with many changes. We have completed our Strategic Plan which will guide us for the next 4 years. We thank you all for your input and suggestions and we plan on doing what we can to incorporate many of those ideas. Our passport office is up and running and we are ramping up for more business in 2024. We have 4 passport officers who can handle appointments with one who is a Spanish speaker. We have added 2 study rooms on the first floor with plans for an additional 2 in 2024.

November 2023 (Oct 2023)
This month we have an exciting announcement for our card holders- Plainfield Library has gone fine-free for Children's, Young Adult and Graphic Novel titles! All late fees have been forgiven and no fines for these book types will be charged going forward. Cards that had been blocked due to fines have been cleared and can now be used freely. The only charges for these book types moving forward will be for lost books, and if you bring the book back there will be no fee and your card will be unblocked.

October 2023 (Sep 2023)
My favorite time of year has arrived and so much is happening here at the library. A special guest is coming to lead our annual Halloween parade. The kids can display their costumes with a march around the pool, get treats from our staff, and pose for pictures with the surprise guest. The Local History Department has two special Halloween events: “Is My House Haunted?” and “Burial Rites & Wrongs: Preventing the Creation of the Undead”. Each is guaranteed to be an interesting Halloween treat. Register now!

September 2023 (Aug 2023)
Welcome to our pumpkin-spice-flavored September Newsletter! Don't miss our technology classes this month offered in both English and Spanish, or if history is your thing, there's a trilogy of fascinating programs on research about a nearby Civil War cemetery, resources for Plainfield High School Alumni, and resources for people interested in researching Cuban Genealogy. Running all month you can also pop in to the Anne Louise Davis room to view our exhibition of Brian Branch-Price's photographs documenting America's Black Cowboys & Cowgirls.

August 2023 (Aug 2023)
We, at the Library, view our role as that of community anchor and local facilitator for education, entertainment and business needs. Recently we have made some changes and will be making more, that will assist not only our general public but businesses and entrepreneurs as well.

July 2023 (Jul 2023)
So here we are in summer and the Library has lots of fun for all with our summer reading events!

Summer Reading 2023 (Jun 2023)
Splash into an ocean of reading and fun at the Library this Summer!

June 2023 (May 2023)
June is Pride Month and the library is celebrating the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community with special events. Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in June of 1969, the beginning of the Gay Liberation Movement.

May 2023 (Apr 2023)
We have re-imagined libraries, making them relevant for the 21st century. We have books and audio books, both paper and digital, (as well as free streaming for movies and TV shows) most of our reference resources are online databases, and books and scholarly research are only a small portion of why our patrons come to the library.

April 2023 (Apr 2023)
I am excited and pleased to announce that our Passport Acceptance Facility will open for business in early April.

March 2023 (Mar 2023)
Spring is just around the corner and weekend trips and activities come to mind with family and friends. Take a look at our Museum Pass Program for fun weekend ideas for a quiet afternoon or a family excursion.

February 2023 (Feb 2023)
Some early takeaways from the Strategic Plan survey have encouraged us to build a cozy and more communal atmosphere in the 1st floor reading room.

January 2023 (Dec 2022)
As we start a New Year, everything is back to normal and we once again have in-person classes, programs and events.

December 2022 (Nov 2022)
We are once again having our Food for Fines. By donating an item of groceries or pet food you can reduce your overdue fines by $1.00 for each item donated. All items collected will go to StarFish and the Plainfield Humane Society. Think of giving during this most special season.

November 2022 Special Edition (Oct 2022)
The Plainfield Public Library needs your help! We are developing the Strategic Plan for the library and need your input.

October 2022 Email (Sep 2022)
Fall is the time of year when we begin to think of indoor activities and holiday preparations. Family, cooking and crafts become a focus as we prepare for colder weather and traditional holiday times of the year. This year as you get ready, think of the resources you can find at the library.

September 2022 Email (Aug 2022)
During the month of September libraries observe Banned Books Week. The annual event draws national attention to the harms of censorship. Acknowledging the Freedom to Read Statement of the American Library Association which condemns censorship of reading materials as part of our 1st Amendment Rights, the Plainfield Public Library encourages the free access to all books no matter how controversial. It is not the role of the library to limit access to books and ideas but to allow them for the free and unimpeded exchange of ideas.

August 2022 Email (Jul 2022)
This year we have included adults in the fun of our summer reading program. Craft classes and a bingo board geared to reading and all things library were welcomed by some of our patrons.

July 2022 Email (Jul 2022)
I hope you are all taking advantage of our summer weather and getting out and about. At the Library we are looking forward to a whole range of summer events.

June 2022 Email (Jun 2022)

The Library is beginning to feel like normal again. Familiar faces working on computers and laptops, classes in the computer labs and in-house activities for the kids.

April 2022 Email (Mar 2022)
As we all look forward to the greening of spring and anticipate better weather and the ability to take part in outside activities, the Library is also looking to move forward.

March 2022 Email (Mar 2022)
Along with better weather we have good news – as of this newsletter we will have opened our seating for our patrons.

February 2022 Email (Feb 2022)
